Bonding and Porcelain Veneers
Bonding and porcelain veneers are used to improve the appearance of teeth, providing you with a better smile and enhancing your confidence.
BONDING AND VENEERS MAY BE ABLE TO HELP WITH THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS:
- Discoloured teeth.
- Worn down, chipped or broken teeth.
- Irregularly shaped, misaligned or uneven teeth.
- Teeth with gaps.
- Unsightly or stained fillings.
- Permanently stained teeth.
HOW DO THEY WORK?
The technique of bonding and porcelain veneers are different, but their goals are similar. Bonding is a tooth coloured composite resin that is moulded onto just a part of tooth and hardened into position. A porcelain veneer is a very thin shell created from a mould of your tooth, bonded in place overtop of your entire tooth. The goal of bonding and veneers are to make subtle alterations to the colour, angle, shape or spacing of your teeth, improving their appearance.
BONDING AND PORCELAIN VENEERS VS. CROWNS
There are several variables that determine which technique is right for you. The condition of the natural tooth is usually a major consideration in deciding whether to use bonding or porcelain veneers, or a crown. A crown involves removing a larger portion of the natural tooth, porcelain veneers involve removing only a very small amount, and usually no part of the natural tooth is removed during a bonding procedure. If it is possible to achieve the desired results with bonding or porcelain veneers they are often better choices than a crown because more natural tooth is preserved. However, crowns are often a better option when damage to the tooth is more severe. A personal consultation and dental exam will help you make the right choice.
